What is hot yoga?
It is simply yoga but in a room heated to 37 degrees! Studio where I went was a large zipped pod. Inside it was dimly lit in shades of purple and held a capacity of few people so it did not feel crowded. During class relaxing music played on the background whilst the teacher guided the students to take various yoga poses.
Interestingly, I thought as the class is in a closed pod with a lot of heat it would smell of sweat and would be unbearably hot. However, the pod smelt fresh throughout and the heat did not even feel high. I sweated a little when the poses were difficult to perform.
What are the benefits of hot yoga?
Yoga in general has great physical and mental benefits. Through yoga one can gain improved flexibility and balance, release stress and focus the mind. Yoga strengthens the body and acts as a low impact challenging work out.
In hot yoga the high heat makes the heart and lungs work harder, in turn enabling burning of more calories. In heat the muscles also have increased flexibility to help prevent injury. By sweating throughout the class harmful toxins are illuminated from the body too.
What is required for a class?
Yoga is normally performed in comfortable stretchy leggings or shorts, and a vest top. As it gets hot I wore thin leggings and a sports bra.
A towel to wipe the sweat off during the class and a mat are required too. Studio where I went provided mats free of charge to use.
A water bottle is a must!
Would I recommend it?
I tried hot yoga at Hotpod Yoga and I very much enjoyed it! I would definitely recommend trying hot yoga, as I felt so many physical and metal positives after each class. Heat was fine to deal with too and it was easy to breath as it did not feel humid.
I would highly recommend Hotpod Yoga studios as the teachers were friendly, atmosphere was relaxing and facilities were clean. Plus you get to do yoga in a giant blown up pod!
